The Department of Computer Engineering was established in the Faculty of Engineering in Peradeniya in 1985 as the oldest Computer Engineering Department in the University system of the country.
The Computer Engineering stream was introduced to the Faculty of Engineering in year 2000 as a separate discipline and thus the Peradeniya Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students society (PEEES) was renamed as Computer, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students society (CEEES). But there was no distinct organization for computer engineering students to handle their own issues and problems; therefore, in August 2001 the Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES) was established as the student body of the Computer Engineering undergraduates of Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
Every year ACES organizes various events and activities with the aid of highly qualified academic staff members to enlighten the undergraduates to serve the society.
ACES Coders is a twelve hours coding competition which presents multiple problems to be solved using programming and mathematical knowledge. A number of institutions around the country take part in this event every year. It is a limited-time, rapid-coding competition which would improve the efficiency & accuracy of the participants.
ACES Hackathon is a coding event that lasts three days, in which a large number of undergraduates meet to improve upon or build new software or services. This event is held every year and is successfully providing motivation and experience to a large number of participants.
Inter School Quiz Competition is organized to provide experience and knowledge to the school community on computer engineering aspects. From 2015 it is named 'Spark', while taking this event to a new level.
